We Want Equality & Justice for all in LGBTQI Movement
IDAHO 2012 Position Paper by For My Colours
8th May 2012

LGBTQI are minorities, yet all human rights need to be respected regardless. We fight for equality and justice in our society. Therefore LGBTQI movement cannot be walking all over others.
We are very disappointed with regards to Pink Alliance’s recent invitation to former Secretary for Security, Mrs. Regina Ip, as the spokesperson of IDAHOT 2012.
LGBTQI movement is part of civil society, stands together with other minorities from different walks of life. In order to establish a solid and stable social movement, we must embrace others who are at the same position, eg: new arrivals from Mainland, ethnic minorities, sex workers, women, physically/mentally disabled, diverse families, grass-root workers, freedom of speech, democracy & universal suffrage, Chinese human rights activists etc.
Therefore, we simply cannot accept someone who incites discriminations against new arrivals from Mainland and ethnic minorities; who encourages law interpretation by Standing Committee of the National People's Congress which lashes the local judicial system; who ridicule taxi drivers, workers in restaurants & MacDonald’s; Tries to enforce Basic Law article 23; Totally ignores some 500,000 who rallied for democracy on 1st July; A Former Secretary of Justice who despises public opinion; current legislative councilor, Mrs Regina Ip to attend & support LGBTQI equality right promotional events. Because we are not those who only care for our own benefits and neglect others
So would it mean if Hitler was gay, we can still support and depend on him to fight for LGBTQI rights as well?
Fellows & friends from civil society & those who support minorities, grass-roots, ethnic minorities, domestic helpers and new immigrants, are now shredding tears. They are overwhelmed with pain & sadness to see how they have been trodden on.
It has been 8 years since we first organize activities for International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia in HK. The Original Idea was to arouse awareness among general public’s distress and anxiety towards LGBTQI. We hereby reiterate that, LGBTQI movement is fighting for a society where equality & justice exists. We do not want to see LGBTQI being discriminated. At the same time, we also do not want to see anyone to be discriminated because of its identity or to incite fear and hatred.
Everyone is born equal, we are ordering for a LGBTQI movement with equality & justice for ALL.
